Brent Johnson

Brent Johnson was born in east Texas, but didn’t stay long enough to develop roots. As an “Army brat”, he attended 26 different schools throughout the U.S. and Europe. Most of his adult life has been in Oklahoma where he considers himself an official OKIE. Brent now lives with his wife in a shady neighborhood in Oklahoma City, where his backyard cedar studio boasts a view of their flower garden. Brent’s two kids are on their own, and he and his wife delight in their three grandchildren.

After receiving a BFA from the University of Oklahoma, Brent became a graphic designer and worked as an art director for several advertising agencies. He eventually went out on his own as both a graphic designer and watercolor artist. He has won awards from numerous regional and national exhibitions, including the American Watercolor Society and the Rock Mountain National Water Media exhibitions. He has also been in the San Diego National Watercolor Exhibition and the Arts for the Parks National Competition.

Most of Brent’s work has been in watercolor and acrylic on paper. Recently, he has enjoyed working in oils.  Brent admits,“While oils are much easier to control and to change, watercolor is still my first love.” Brent relies heavily on gathering his own research and has become somewhat of an accomplished outdoor photographer. Photography has been a great release for Brent from the confines of the studio. “To grab the Nikon, a thermos of coffee, jump into my SUV, and hit the back roads… this is where it all begins!”
